Rather than have the yacht shipped quietly home, Khun Bomb chose to run her the long way and turn the delivery itself into a voyage worth remembering. “From Cannes we sailed to Monaco, then jumped across to Bonifacio in Corsica,” he recalls. “After that we cruised a lot of the Greek islands, Mykonos, Santorini and Poros, before crossing to Bodrum in Turkey, where the trip finally came to an end.”
It reads like a simple list, yet each leg holds its own reward. The glittering harbour of Monaco, the dramatic cliff-framed port of Bonifacio at the southern tip of Corsica, the whitewashed calderas of Santorini, the windmills and winding lanes of Mykonos and the calm pine-fringed bays of Poros, before that final crossing to the Turkish coast. For a maiden outing, it was the kind of shakedown cruise most new owners can only dream about.
Back in familiar Southeast Asian waters, the Y95 has proved every bit as willing to wander. “We have been to Myanmar twice, but the longest trip we have done together is to the Anambas Islands in Indonesia,” Khun Bomb says.
The Myanmar coast drew him back for its long, quiet shoreline still largely untouched by private yachts, where empty islands and glassy channels reward those prepared to go looking. The Anambas carried him further still, a remote scattering of granite outcrops and jungle-clad shores set deep in the South China Sea. Very few private yachts ever make the trip, which is precisely what gives it its magic. “It is still quite unexplored, because not many yachts go there,” he says. “I would say it is the finest beach I have come across anywhere in the world.” Fine white sand, water the colour of cut glass and not another hull in sight.
